Youth.Academy TO

Youth.Academy TO is an initiative of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) for the interdisciplinary development of young professionals working in technical prosthetics and orthotics.

Apprentices launched the event in 2011 in collaboration with ALLOF e.V. (Association of Supporters and Teachers in Orthopaedic Technology). The German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) served as the conceptual partner for the venture. The event is supported by numerous sponsors.

Young professionals come together every two years at OTWorld for the sector's largest "family reunion". A smaller, national group attends a different industry event in the years in between.

TRAINING, EXCHANGING IDEAS, CELEBRATING – THAT WAS THE YOUTH.ACADEMY TO 2024

The Youth.Academy TO 2024 took place for the seventh time as part of the leading international industry event, OTWorld, in Leipzig.

On 16 and 17 May 2024, over 400 young professionals from nine countries came together in Leipzig to find out about developments and trends in the industry, share experiences, network and celebrate.

In addition to the opportunity to explore the trade fair with its 574 exhibitors, the young professionals had the chance to take part in selected sessions at the World Congress and sponsor workshops. Young professionals were also able to visit the OTWorld.campus activity area and share their experiences with others at the barbecue party on Thursday evening. At the congress, the symposium "Paediatric orthopaedics: 3D printing - new possibilities in the provision of medical aids" and the keynote speech "Green carbon fibres - a sustainable material for high-performance applications in medical technology" were of great interest to the prospective specialists.

The participants particularly enjoyed the Youth.Academy barbecue party on Thursday evening. In the pocket park at the Leipzig Trade Fair Centre, barbecue masters Alf Reuter, President of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology, Philipp Hoefer, Managing Director of Otto Bock HealthCare Deutschland GmbH, and the Congress Presidents of OTWorld, Prof. Dr Thomas Wirth and Dipl.-Ing. Ingo Pfefferkorn, stood at the barbecue and provided the junior staff with freshly grilled sausages. Side dishes and cold drinks were also provided. All those present were able to enjoy the first day of the Youth.Academy both outside and in the glass hall until late in the evening.
