FH Münster (Germany)
Description of educational program
Münster University of Applied Sciences is one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany and offers a comprehensive range of courses, including the Bachelor's degree course in Technical Orthopaedics. The course offers students an engineering education with a focus on orthopaedic technology and optimally prepares them for the new requirements of the changing job profile. Our study modules impart the necessary biomechanical, medical-clinical and scientific-methodological skills, while at the same time integrating practical experiences through cooperation with clinics, industry and the trades. Students are involved in ongoing research projects and thus benefit from the latest research findings, e.g. in the field of additive manufacturing of orthopaedic aids. Graduates of the course currently have excellent career prospects.
At our stand, you will have the opportunity to find out more about the degree program and the latest research results, as well as to exchange ideas with students and alumni.
Why are we looking forward to OTWorld 2024?
“OTWorld is always like a big family reunion. We are particularly looking forward to exchanging ideas with interested students, former students and colleagues from the industry. We are also excited to see the new developments in the industry and look forward to presenting our own research results.” - Lucas Wiedenbruch, FH Münster
H.A.W.K. Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften und Kunst (Germany)
Description of educational program
The Göttingen Health Campus (GCG) is a cooperation between the University Medical Centre Göttingen (UMG) and the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen, Faculty of Engineering and Health. The special feature of the Göttingen Health Campus is its future-oriented structure, which is unique in Germany and combines the respective strengths and expertise of the Medical Faculty and the University. The Bachelor's programme in Orthobionics at HAWK Göttingen prepares students for independent patient care in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. Upon completion of the bachelor's degree, students must take an examination at the Chamber of Crafts and Trades to obtain a master's degree in orthopaedic technology. The combination of comprehensive scientific study content in medicine, biomechanics and engineering, as well as sound practical training, prepares graduates for the future of the industry.
Why are we looking forward to OTWorld 2024?
"We are using our participation in the special OT World.campus area to present the unique Orthobionics course, which started in the winter semester 23/24 at the HAWK Health Campus in Göttingen. We are delighted to be able to offer this course as a public university course to the next generation of the industry. With the Orthobionics programme, graduates will have a secure future in the industry." - Prof. Dr. Malte Bellmann, Professor für Biomechanik an der HAWK Göttingen
Human Study (Germany)
Description of educational program
We Train Rehabilitation Professionals
BECAUSE ACCESS TO REHABILITATION IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT
There are over 40 million people globally who require prosthetics and orthotics services. More than 80% of this population have NO ACCESS to assistive technology and rehabilitation, mainly due to the unavailability of services. We work against this situation by educating professionals who deliver these services to people with physical disabilities, especially in regions with increased need and very low availability rates. Our educational programs have a direct impact on the provision of services to people with disabilities, and are accredited by international standards for education in prosthetics and orthotics. With us, students can acquire internationally recognized and accredited qualification and education as the Prosthetic/Orthotic Technician (non-clinician), the Associate Prosthetist/Orthotist and as the Professional Prosthetist/Orthotist. In addition to our formal qualification programs, we offer continued professional development courses called Specialized Courses in Prosthetics and Orthotics (SCOPe).
Why are we looking forward to OTWorld 2024?
"OT-World offers a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from all over the world, get to know new products and meet up with old friends." - Christian Schlierf, Human Study

STAND - formerly Legs for Africa (Great Britain)
Description of educational program
Our education program underscores the critical need to enhance assistive technology accessibility in the global south. This initiative isn't only about meeting a moral obligation; it's a strategic move to unlock markets, foster entrepreneurship, and facilitate open-source knowledge sharing alongside improving clinical access to prosthetics and orthotics (P&O). By doing so, we're addressing an urgent humanitarian need and contributing to the dynamism and prosperity of the global P&O industry. STAND is committed to advocating for these changes, highlighting the immense potential for impact through investment and collaboration in these regions.
Why are we looking forward to OTWorld 2024?
"We are looking forward to attending OTWorld 2024 to connect with leading figures in the prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) industry. It's a brilliant opportunity to exchange ideas, discover cutting-edge technologies, and explore new approaches. Moreover, it's a chance to collaborate with like-minded organisations, aiming to catalyse the growth of the P&O industry across sub-Saharan Africa, which is something I'm deeply passionate about." - Matt Thomson, STAND

Empower gUG (Germany)
Description of educational program
EmPower is a newly established non profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life for disabled people worldwide. Sustainable results are achieved through strong local partnerships and a good international network.
Key points include affordable, high-performance products and qualified personnel:
- University online study and specialized training. (EmPower members were instrumental in the development of the world's first formal distance learning program in orthopedic technology.)
- Support for the development of customized technical solutions. (e.g., testing the "Niagara Foot" and the "All-Terrain Knee" with hundreds of amputees in Africa and Latin America)
We will present our new impression device at the OT World, which can be used to produce transtibial plaster negatives or test sockets from cast bandages that can already be fully loaded during the process. Due to the excellent basic fit, subsequent modeling is unnecessary. The device includes 2 impression modes, pin-liner sockets (traction distally), and hydrostatic volume sockets. The advantage of this device is that it does not require electricity, water, or compressed air connections, making it usable anywhere in the world.
Why are we looking forward to OTWorld 2024?
"We are looking forward to participating in OTWorld.campus because, as a newly founded non profit organization, we want to see and show creative OT approaches and new technologies, as well as meet partners and friends." - Jochen Weigel, Empower gUG
